• Health and Safety

Health and Safety is Law and our number one priority is your safety and welfare.

We are all legally bound to comply with H&S legislation which means acting in a manner that does not affect the safety of yourself and others and also stopping or reporting a dangerous practice you witness.

Failure to do either is a criminal offence.

A copy of the MakeUK Health and Safety Policy is available on request

All accidents / near misses, however trivial must be reported to a member of staff.

The Training Centres have several ‘Safety Points’ that contain accident books, near miss forms and first aid treatment equipment. At each point there is also information about first aid personnel and the Safeguarding team

All injuries, however minor must be examined by a member of the first aid team. Metal working fluids may contain bacteria which may enter the body through open wounds.

PPE must be worn at all times whilst in areas displaying its use.

The workshop area is a safety eye-wear area, the welding bays are ear protection areas and the areas within the workshop painted grey are safety footwear areas.

Classrooms within the workshop area become safety eye-wear areas when the indicator lights are illuminated.

During your training you will be given a section H&S induction. You must comply with all instructions given during these sessions.

Students are to be fully prepared for work before leaving the locker area which includes the following:

    • Overalls to be fully worn, not tied around the waist.

    • Loose clothing, i.e. hoodies should be tucked inside overalls.

    • Long hair should be tied up to prevent entanglement in machinery.

    • Religious headwear / clothing should be secure and free from loose materials.

    Accidents/Near Miss

Every accident or Near Miss, however slight, must be reported at once to a staff member where the injury or Near Miss occurred.  See also First Aid and Fire Procedures.
